I don’t know about others, but for me it’s something like “order a sandwich at a subway and think about trying all the possible paid flavors”. I don’t understand. Why wait for the release of the full edition with all the additions, if you can buy the game now, play it enough and, having already looked at the announced additions (if there are any), decide whether you need them? This will at least deprive you of spoilers creeping in everywhere and enjoy the damn game. What if there is no GOTY edition for the game at all (The Sims is a prime example)? Skip and forget?
Personally, I think that if a game comes out good, then it should be taken regardless of how many additions are released and what kind. We bought the game, and they announced a super add-on with quintillion planets new opportunities? If you need it, buy it.
I have the same approach as the author to single-player games. I BUY current full editions of games. I can watch the game on a pirate stream and nothing more. If I like it, I’m waiting for the release of GOTI (or similar complete editions) and I’ll take it (as a rule, also with good discounts), if I don’t like it, I’ll be fooled with it. Still waiting for GOTI Fallout 4. Next year I’ll be waiting for Disorned 2. I just finished The Witcher 3 2 months ago (I didn’t touch it before)…
